Welcome to the Defense Acquisition Academy

Thank you for your interest in the Defense Acquisition Academy (DAA). Our Winter 2011 session will begin Monday, November 28, 2011. Registration for this session will be available on-line starting at 10:00am Wednesday, October 12 and will close promptly at 1:00pm on Wednesday, November 16, 2011.

Welcome to the Defense Acquisition Academy, presented by the Workforce Development division of Sinclair Community College. As a certified equivalent provider of Defense Acquisition University (DAU) courses, all DAA course offerings reflect the training requirements for Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) Level I certifications. DAA provides acquisition and contracting training on regulations and best practices to contracting and technical personnel from Department of Defense (DoD) and federal agencies. While designed and taught from the DoD perspective, government contractors may also find our courses useful in understanding the regulations and the language used in our federal acquisition system. DAA offerings include the following tracks:

  • Contracting
  • Logistics
  • Program Management
  • Systems Engineering
  • Science and Technology
  • Facilities Engineering

*Note: Actual DAWIA certification can only be awarded by the services

Certified acquisition personnel are not only sought after by the DoD, but are also critical in non-defense agencies (U.S. Department of Energy, Homeland Security, U.S. and Ohio Department of Transportation, etc.) as well as private companies who do business with the government. Successful completion of this training will familiarize you with terminology and processes used in these agencies and companies, and may increase your viability as a candidate for employment in such roles.
Closely aligned with the hiring criteria of WPAFB, enrollment in this program is restricted to individuals meeting the following criteria:

  • Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
  • Be a United States citizen
  • Be able to pass a background and/or security investigation

Preference will be given to applicants who have degrees/experience in complementary subject areas including: business, cost estimating, finance, project management, technology, contract management, transportation, distribution, warehousing. These backgrounds, when combined with acquisition knowledge fit some of Wright Patterson's most critical needs.

Displaced or unemployed participants may be eligible for funding via TAA or WIA programs. Click here for more information.
