Welcome to the Defense Acquisition Academy

Thank you for your interest in the Defense Acquisition Academy (DAA), presented by Sinclair Community College Workforce Development. We are a Certified Equivalent Provider of Defense Acquisition University (DAU) courses. All DAA course offerings are certified by the American Council on Education (ACE) and reflect the training requirements for Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) Level I Certifications.*

DAA provides acquisition and contracting training on regulations and best practices to contracting and technical personnel from the Department of Defense (DoD) and other federal agencies. Government contractors and individuals interested in pursuing acquisition careers also benefit from our courses as they are designed and taught from the DoD perspective and are useful in understanding the regulations and language used in the federal acquisition system. Certified acquisition personnel are not only sought after by the DoD, but are also critical in non-defense agencies such as the U.S. Department of Energy, Homeland Security, U.S. and Ohio Department of Transportation, etc. In addition, certified personnel are desired by private companies who do business with the government. Successful completion of this training will familiarize you with terminology and processes used in these agencies and companies, and may increase your viability as a candidate for employment in such roles.

Enrollment in DAA is closely aligned with the hiring standards of WPAFB and is restricted to individuals meeting the following criteria:

  • Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
  • Be a United States citizen
  • Be able to pass a background and/or security investigation

Led by expert facilitators, most DAA courses are delivered in an online format. Participants may enroll in individual DAA courses or entire Level I program tracks.

  • Individual, self-paced online DAA courses can be completed in six weeks or less.
  • DAA's program tracks can be completed in 12 weeks or less.

New online sessions begin monthly in each of the following areas:

  • Contracting
  • Logistics
  • Program Management
  • Systems Engineering
  • Science and Technology
  • Facilities Engineering

DAA has also partnered with the Advance Technical Intelligence Center for Human Capital (ATIC) to offer a new 16-week program track, Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (ISR). The ISR track provides a broad overview of DoD acquisition processes and logistics fundamentals before focusing on ISR issues, data, and sensors. Topics specific to the Intelligence Community aspects of defense acquisitions will be a major focus as well. Course content will be delivered in a hybrid model - including three online DAA courses and 12 in-residence ATIC classes.

ISR students not currently holding a government clearance will be submitted for a Secret security clearance through the U.S. government. Important: Security clearances can only be granted by the government sponsoring agency and there is no guarantee that an individual will be approved.

*Actual DAWIA certification can only be awarded by a military service or DoD Component.

Displaced or unemployed participants may be eligible for funding via TAA or WIA programs. Click here for more information.
